Late night hours, frequent fast food and stressful work schedules may be some of the reasons why constipation is so common among those living in the urban jungle.

Constipation is associated with symptoms like bloating, fullness and flatulence (gas).

No wonder we want fast relief when we feel constipated. Below are some quick and effective home remedies, listed from the most effective to the least effective.


A magnesium supplement

We all have heard of Milk of Magnesia for great constipation relief. But is there a way to enjoy this relief provided by magnesium on a daily basis?

Taking 300 to 400 mg of the right kind of magnesium supplement each day may be one of the most effective long-term answers for constipation. 

  • Magnesium is a natural osmotic laxative that draws water into the colon. This helps to make stools soft, moist and easy to pass.

  • The extra water in the colon can help to prompt peristalsis, the wave like contractions of the colon that moves stool along.

Add to this that magnesium is an important nutrient, needed for proper muscle function and the transmission of nerve impulses, plus many more uses


Coconut oil

Coconut oil acts as a lubricating agent to help get blockages moving again.

To get things moving, take a tablespoon of coconut oil in the morning. For improved taste, try mixing in a little honey. 


Castor oil

This is another effective lubricant laxative. However, it can affect the absorption of nutrients and should only be used occasionally.


Lemon water

A glass of lemon water may provide immediate constipation relief. Lemon stimulates the contractions of the bowel and cleanses the digestive system. As a side benefit, it also helps to cleanse the body of toxins.

For best results, right after you get up in the morning and before you eat anything, squeeze a lemon into a glass of warm water and drink. The warm water seems to speed up the propelling action of the intestines.


Watermelon juice

If you are looking for an quick digestive cleanser, watermelon juice is a good option.

In fact, it helps to cleanse the whole body. Add to this the fact that it stimulates bowel movements to provide quick constipation relief.

Watermelon is rich in fiber content and loaded with plenty of nutrients. Add a pinch of sea salt to a glass of water melon juice to make it even healthier.


Vinegar

Another effective constipation remedy is vinegar. Simply add a tablespoon of vinegar to a cup of lukewarm water. Mix well and drink it first thing in the morning. Walk around a bit and you will no doubt notice the results. 

Apple cider vinegar is a health tonic and is also used to improve numerous health conditions, including heartburn, yeast infection, acid reflux and high blood pressure.


Dried grapes

Raisins are among the effective home remedies for bowel movement. They contain fiber, which helps increase the bulk of stools.

Dip 10 to 12 raisins in milk and boil the milk. Let it cool down a bit and then drink the milk and chew the raisins. Take this at night for next morning comfortable relief. 


Carrot juice

Various juices are effective home remedies for bowel movement, especially carrot juice. Vegetable and fruit juices provide a healthy way to promote digestion as well as supplement the body with essential nutrients.

Carrots are rich in soluble fiber, which is wonderful for constipation relief. To make the juice even healthier, juice a bunch of fresh spinach and add it to the carrot juice.

Both spinach and carrots are high in dietary fiber, an essential for regular bowel movements. Another variation is to substitute carrots with cabbage, another vegetable high in fiber. 


Ionic Sea Minerals

Here’s another great way to promote regularity. minerals needed by the body.  They are also a good source of the nutrient magnesium. 

Not only is magnesium a needed nutrient, but it also functions as an osmotic laxative to draw moisture into the colon. This helps to moisten and soften stool.
